In today’s world there are many ‘Fad Diets’ and there are also many lifestyle changes. Veganism is no ‘Fad Diet’ it is a lifestyle change. There have been many debates about whether veganism is unhealthy. The biggest problem is, is that there are many misconceptions about vegans whether it is mixed with other diets or if some doctor has says something, it puts a bad negativity on something.
The dictionary definition of being a Vegan is ‘Veganism is a way of living which seeks to exclude, as far as is possible and practicable, all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to, animals for food, clothing or any other purpose’. The reason why people think it is bad for you is because they think you are not getting enough nutrients. For example; Dr Vic Shayne ‘A Vegan lifestyle isn’t a healthy one and can make you sick and kill you’. On the other hand, Mary Lynch, a writer who wrote an article on Jamie Oliver’s website about Veganism. Telling us it is healthy and safe. A bit of it tells us about A recent study indicated that the average vegan diet is higher in vitamin C and fibre, and lower in saturated fat than one containing meat. In addition, statistics show that vegans have a lower BMI (height-to-weight ratio) than meat eaters – in other words, they are skinnier.
So after looking through many sources, I have come to the result that veganism is healthy. If you are going to start it to lose weight or you do not like the way animals are killed. It is safe so if you want to do it, do it.
